This was the fifth meeting on indigenous peoples, human rights and transnational companies, examining the challenges facing Latin America and the European Union.<\/i><\/p>\n
On 14 June, Rafael Garc\u00eda Mart\u00edn, president and founder of CMI Business School, took part in the fifth scientific seminar on international law at the University of Alcal\u00e1 de Henares, examining the European Union’s challenges in the context of indigenous peoples’ rights and the advance of transnational companies.<\/p>\n
Garc\u00eda Mart\u00edn joined the third round table, which addressed specialist education in corporate social responsibility and human rights, against the background of global problems such as rising poverty \u2014 which, according to the United Nations, reached 22% of the population of developing countries this year.<\/p>\n
The director of the business school specialising in CSR spoke about the importance of building this sustainable perspective into everything a company does, so as to achieve real improvements in rights and in productivity.<\/p>\n
On the panel alongside him were Laura Aragon\u00e9s Molina, doctor, researcher and lecturer at the University Institute for Latin American Studies at the University of Alcal\u00e1; and Juliana Rodr\u00edguez Pataroyo, deputy coordinator of professional placements on the same university’s Master’s in the International Protection of Human Rights.<\/p>\n
The seminar was chaired by Elena Crespo Navarro, senior lecturer in public international law and international relations at the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche.<\/p>\n
The event formed part of the research project \u201cHuman rights and the overseas activity of Spanish companies: challenges and responses from international law\u201d, funded by the Spanish government’s Ministry of Science and Innovation.<\/p>\n
