The aim is to build closer ties with the volunteering arm of the Caribbean state bank, so as to offer support and opportunities for growth to the country’s most disadvantaged communities and to create synergies between the two institutions.
CMI signed an agreement with the president of Voluntariado Banreservas, Noelia García de Pereyra, during her visit to our premises in Madrid. The aim is to build cooperation and create synergies between the institutions. Voluntariado is the charitable programme of Banreservas, the state bank of the Dominican Republic and the second largest institution in Central America.
“The purpose of this visit is to make known the great work Voluntariado does in the Dominican Republic, and to share those experiences with like-minded Spanish institutions with whom we can exchange ideas and initiatives that enrich us both,” García de Pereyra told a Spanish outlet about her visit, which took place during the International Tourism Fair.
The president of the Dominican volunteering programme also explained that she would be holding several meetings with various Dominican and Spanish institutions, with a view to developing joint efforts to help the Dominican community settled in Spain.
Spain is home to more Dominicans than any other country in Europe. Official figures put the number at almost 180,000, most of them in Madrid.
Under this agreement, CMI students will be able to take an active part in Voluntariado’s work, so as to have a positive impact on social and environmental conditions in the Dominican Republic.
