On World Consumer Rights Day, the importance of transparent information, of the quality of products and services, and of the fair and honest treatment people deserve as customers was recalled.

At an event held at the Madrid College of Architects, notable figures gathered to mark the day. Among them were Rafael García Martín, president, founder and dean of CMI Business School, together with Nilsa Mármol, the institution’s vice-president, and Daniel Arribas González, Director-General for Consumer Affairs at Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda.

The presence of the school’s directors underlined the part education, academia and government regulation play in defending consumer rights: the event was an occasion to reflect on the progress made in consumer protection and to identify the challenges that remain.

Adapting consumer protection strategies to address new problems and guarantee the safety and well-being of every user is essential, since consumers have the right to receive clear, truthful and complete information about the products and services they buy.

That transparency means disclosing the prices and characteristics of products and services, but also giving information about their environmental impact, the conditions of their use and any possible risks to health and safety.
