CMI’s academic community took part in the COP25 climate summit
Directors, lecturers and students from CMI took part in the twenty-fifth Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held last month at Madrid’s IFEMA fairground. At COP25, CMI’s teaching staff explained why companies need to change the way they act.
Among the lecturers taking part was Dr Ana Rodríguez, who teaches environmental management and protection at CMI, and who shared her conclusions about the meeting. “Events of this kind are important, but they cannot stop at being a mere declaration of intent. (…) What we have to do is act. We no longer have time to go on researching, because we know what we are facing (…) we have to know and define what we have to do.”
At COP25, Dr Ramón Fisac, who teaches leadership and entrepreneurship at our business school, explained why it matters that companies take part in such forums and discuss and build CSR into their practice.
“The private sector, in general, is a very important actor when it comes to changing how society works. That is why it matters that corporate social responsibility should be discussed in spaces like this (…) where ideas are exported and imported. This is the first step towards establishing sustainability within a company,” said Fisac.
Following the summit, held from 2 to 13 December, 114 countries have undertaken to submit an improved climate action plan this year.
