Rafael García on why corporate social responsibility matters
The Spanish newspaper published Rafael García’s article on the importance of training in corporate social responsibility
The founding president of CMI Business School, and author of the article published in the newspaper ABC, reflects on the fundamental role that education in the responsible management of organisations plays in building a successful career, and in driving companies and organisations of every kind towards sustainable growth across all three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. “Companies should serve to make the world a better place,” he argues.
Fortunately, awareness of the value of studying programmes at the leading edge — not only of management technique but of values — is growing all the time, including among young people who want to contribute and to work in organisations with a purpose: organisations that deliver products and services in harmony with society and with the natural world. There is no room for discouragement; changing things is also in our hands.
“It is admirable to see that the new generations are deeply committed to caring for the environment, thanks to early education in this field. The world faces challenges it has never known before: pollution, devastating wildfires, desertification, flooding, loss of biodiversity, new economic crises, political corruption.”
Moving from the traditional approach to a CSR approach
“This situation affects us as a global village. That is why each of us must contribute whatever we can towards the sustainable development of our society. Otherwise we would be complicit, by omission, in what is happening on the scale of our own everyday actions,” reflects García Martín on the present moment. He is also an industrial engineer, a researcher, a lecturer, and sustainability ambassador for the aerospace multinational Airbus.
“Through modest acts we can improve our own lives, our surroundings and those of others. If we want to move from complaint to action, if we want to change our lives for the better, if we want to leave a legacy to those we love and to the generations that follow, then studying the most advanced techniques in the management of companies and organisations may be the evolutionary leap that carries us successfully towards living and working to the full,” he explains — placing the emphasis on self-awareness as the means of giving both our own contribution and our companies the mission of becoming the agents of change that society needs.
He closes the article by explaining that “at CMI Business School we carry out and promote responsible research, development and innovation in order to offer useful, effective solutions that reach everyone, with universal accessibility, drawing on the latest technologies such as big data and Industry 4.0, within a global vision of a world without borders, in harmony with society and with nature”. He adds that the school’s programmes “are pioneering in placing sustainability, entrepreneurship and innovation as a cross-cutting axis running through every discipline in the management of organisations”.
