Given the situation the world is going through, a number of experts hold that the dynamics of work have changed and will go on changing. The Spanish daily ABC, which singled out CMI’s programmes for being at the forefront and for their excellence, recognised in April’s Business supplement how important continuing education is — all the more so in a crisis. “A master’s can be the ideal training for facing emergencies such as the one COVID-19 has caused, and for cultivating a far-reaching strategic vision.”

In this article we set out ten reasons to study at CMI Business School, and what its programmes offer for improving, redesigning, driving forward or launching organisations and projects.

1. Teaching at the forefront, and of excellence

CMI Business School is Spain’s first business school specialising in corporate social responsibility (CSR).

CMI’s master’s programmes are built on educational quality and excellence, in line with Spanish university regulations and with the European Higher Education Area. They are designed so that students can enter and stand out in the national and international job market.

CMI Business School’s work has been covered by media at home and abroad — television, press, radio and social media.

CMI holds various awards from significant institutions and organisations. Corresponsables, the leading Ibero-American publication on social responsibility and sustainability, presented CMI with an award on 26 February 2020 for its work as a business school.

The School of Tourism at the Universidad Dominicana O&M honoured the Institute’s founders and leaders, Rafael García Martín and Nilsa Mármol Paulino, for their contribution to the professional development of the tourism sector’s future practitioners.

As for rankings, the education portal Mundo Posgrado placed CMI’s Master’s in CSR and Sustainability first in its 2019 ranking of master’s programmes in CSR, while the Responsible MBA was placed third among Spain’s best on-campus MBAs.

2. A faculty of international standing

CMI’s faculty is chosen through rigorous selection processes following best practice in business school governance, guaranteeing that every lecturer is appointed purely on merit: distinguished PhDs, doctoral candidates and professionals of recognised international success in their field.

Our lecturers are the guarantors of the institution’s philosophy and therefore represent our values as examples to follow. They give students their fullest support, with scientific rigour and a passion for teaching, as well as a spirit of self-improvement and of service.

3. Flexibility, closeness and programmes that fit you

CMI’s courses and master’s programmes are available on campus weekly, on campus fortnightly, and 100% online, so as to fit around students’ needs.

On the on-campus editions, groups are small, guaranteeing closeness to the teaching staff and a better learning process.

In the online version, students have live classes through the Virtual Campus. Classes are recorded so that they can be accessed whenever students wish, and personalised, continuous tutorials are provided throughout the learning process.

4. A base in Madrid and international programmes

Our operational base is a few metres from Madrid’s well-known Retiro park. The city was rated the second-best Spanish-speaking city in which to study, according to the “best student cities 2019” ranking produced by the consultancy Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

All CMI’s programmes take a universal approach, adapted to an international business perspective and designed particularly for students from every corner of our global village.

5. Work placements and employability

It matters greatly to the school that its students achieve the boost and the growth in their careers that they are looking for, and that they enter the job market successfully. In 2019 the employability rate among CMI’s students was over 90%.

Students have access to a personalised Careers Service, which also signs collaboration agreements for curricular placements in companies and organisations and publicises the openings on our Responsible Jobs Board. It is headed by Natalia Di Piazza, a graduate in educational psychology, who explains: “What matters about these agreements is that they should also involve a learning process for students in real working environments — so that they discover the genuine needs, challenges and opportunities of the sectors that interest them.” AGREEMENTS

To that end, CMI works with an academic, business and NGO network committed to good CSR practice, including Acción contra el Hambre, MAPFRE, Mutua Madrileña, Cabify, Fundación Entreculturas and Tree Jobs, among many others.

Gaining these qualifications and this experience makes professionals more employable, while those interested in launching their own projects or start-ups have the specialist advice of the Institute and of its faculty of experts in entrepreneurship.

6. A practical, values-based teaching method

Our experiential method combines a high academic level with learning through an emphatically practical approach, drawing on a range of teaching tools: lectures, the case method, group and individual work, as well as practical work in research, project management, entrepreneurial activity and collaborative forums.

The learning environment focuses on developing knowledge and skills, supported by a holistic view of the human being and by scientific rigour. This educational-psychology approach ensures that a student’s development reaches their deepest dimensions, giving the fullest possible support to their all-round development — not only as an expert in their field but as a person and as an exemplary leader.

7. Personalised academic guidance

Our admissions team gives every student prompt, personalised attention, advising on the various master’s options and study plans and supporting them through the admissions process, including guidance on obtaining scholarships and financial assistance.

For international students who have reserved a place, the admissions team also arranges a certified letter allowing them to apply for a study and residence visa, and so to apply for professional placements, among other things.

8. Study grants

Education of the highest quality matters to CMI. To create equality of opportunity and make quality training accessible to every professional, whatever their financial circumstances, the Institute offers a system of study grants guaranteeing access to a European business school and research centre at the forefront of CSR.

In 2018 and 2019 CMI awarded €264,353.00 in grants, principally to students from Latin American and European countries.

These grants comprise:

  • Up to 50% off for academic excellence, for functional diversity, or for people from developing countries or emerging economies;
  • Up to 25% off for a professional record in CSR, NGOs or similar, and for those who are unemployed or recently graduated.

To apply for these benefits on any of the programmes, candidates should send their curriculum vitae, university degree certificate (or confirmation of having completed it), academic transcript and a covering letter setting out why they wish to take the course and applying for the grant, to admisiones@cmi.es

9. Agreements and collaborations

At university level, CMI Business School works with the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid Foundation and holds the endorsement of being a Protective Partner of the Spanish Association of CSR Managers (DIRSE).

In business, CMI works with multinationals, leading companies, NGOs and public bodies such as Enaire, Metro de Madrid, McDonald’s Spain, Negocio Responsable, Rama (Dominican Republic), Vesta (Mexico), the Insight Foresight Institute, the Social Innovation Association and DC-PV Decentralized Photovoltaics Ltda (Portugal).

10. A commitment to sustainability

As a social enterprise, CMI has contributed to 9 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
