The report sets out the organisation’s most significant impacts in the field of sustainability, from its founding in 2017 to 31 December 2019. It was drawn up using elements of the international Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) methodology and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
CMI presents its 2017–2019 Sustainability Report to its academic community and to the wider public, setting out its activities and contributions from its founding through to last December.
For our institute, education of the highest quality is one of the foundations on which a new society is built. That society cannot come about if the people who want to be agents of change are unable to reach such an education. One of CMI’s greatest contributions, accordingly, is to champion equality of opportunity, so that any professional, whatever their financial circumstances, can study at a European research centre at the forefront of CSR.
In 2018 and 2019, CMI awarded €264,353.00 in study grants, principally to students from Latin American and European countries.
Other groups reached by these policies include recent graduates, the unemployed, people with functional diversity, people from developing countries, and those with a record of professional excellence.
The sustainability report also details CMI’s milestones, such as the recognition of the Responsible MBA among the five best on-campus MBAs by the Mundo Posgrado portal, taking third place among such programmes in Spain.
Another significant event was becoming the first protecting member of the Spanish Association of Corporate Social Responsibility Directors (DIRSE). CMI thereby contributes to DIRSE’s aim of raising the standing of the CSR professional’s management role, and of their work, so as to widen their influence in creating value for organisations.
Besides the GRI framework, the report also drew on the SDGs set out by the UN in 2015 — a set of global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
In its 2017–2019 Sustainability Report, CMI Business School sets out its contribution, in under two years, to 9 of the 17 SDGs agreed by world leaders.
- Goal 4, quality education: at CMI we offer programmes that help our students achieve excellence in the conscious management of organisations and make the most of their talent. Read why the UN considers quality education to matter.
- Goal 5, gender equality: 66% of our students and 54% of our teaching and administrative team are women.
- Goal 8, decent work and economic growth: 90% of students find work on completing a CMI master’s.
- Goal 9, industry, innovation and infrastructure: CMI’s founders, Rafael García Martín and Nilsa Mármol, were honoured by the School of Tourism at the O&M University in the Dominican Republic for their contribution to teaching in sustainability, responsible entrepreneurship and innovation in tourism.
- Goal 10, reduced inequalities within and among countries: CMI offers a broad scholarship programme with awards of up to 50% and tailored financing for a range of groups.
- Goal 12, responsible consumption and production: educating tomorrow’s professionals to use what they have learned to close the loop in supply chains and minimise negative impacts on the environment and on society. At the events we take part in, every material we use is biodegradable and plastic-free.
- Goal 13, urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts: in pursuit of this goal, CMI gave away 325 seedlings of strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo) and stone pine (Pinus pinea), species native to the Iberian Peninsula, to help absorb CO2 and fight climate change.
- Goal 16, peace, justice and strong institutions: CMI’s vision is to contribute globally to a society at peace and in harmony with its surroundings, through the education of conscious leaders — that is, leaders of integrity and responsibility.
- Goal 17, partnerships for the goals: we hold agreements and partnerships with a network of companies and organisations committed to good practice in CSR.
